“The basis and the principles of our country’s development are provided in the Spatial Development Strategy for Russia until 2030 with a forecast until 2036. Its global task and objective is to link all its regions and populated centres to form a single balanced development system. Currently, the priorities of its special development are focused on the East, China, the Pacific region, on developing ties with Asia. This required redirection of transport flows and infrastructure. The new national project Infrastructure for Life covers for the first time all the infrastructure that is needed to improve the quality of the living environment and is ready to respond to contemporary challenges. The construction industry has become one of the leading drivers in urban development and a source for investments growth. Last year we achieved the maximum amounts in the country’s modern history in terms of commissioning residential and non-residential properties – 150 million square metres, more than one square metre per person. We are facing large-scale tasks and we have the mechanisms that enable us to solve them efficiently. All countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation need comprehensive urban development programmes. These are rapidly developing countries with growing population and fast changing cities. We are prepared to share our experience and adopt good experience of the OIC countries,” said Marat Khusnullin.
He added that the country has to improve the quality of public utility services for 20 million people by 2030. In the first year of implementing the federal project Modernisation of Utility Infrastructure the country completed construction, renovation and major repairs of over 1,500 projects and replaced almost 8,000 km of utility networks.
The Deputy Prime Minister underlined that the frame of the backbone transport network consists of the West-East, North-South and Europe – Western China international transport corridors. Last year, freight transport via international corridors increased by 11 percent. Major logistic operators and marketplaces now choose road delivery thanks to its predictability, quick turnaround and affordable costs. The main challenge is to bring roads up to standard.
