Alexei Overchuk holds a meeting of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan
Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexei Overchuk, together with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin, held a meeting of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan. The meeting was held via videoconference, with representatives of the relevant ministries, departments and agencies of Russia and Kazakhstan in attendance.
The parties discussed pressing issues pertaining to trade, economic and cultural cooperation. The co-chairs of the Commission paid particular attention to advancing interaction in transport and logistics, customs administration, industrial collaboration and cultural exchange, as well as the prospects for deepening integration processes within the Eurasian Economic Union.
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the positive trend in bilateral trade: over the first five months of 2026, trade turnover between Russia and Kazakhstan increased by 15.2 percent up to $12.2 billion, with Russian exports to Kazakhstan rising by 17.5 percent and imports from Kazakhstan growing by 9.8 percent.
Trade in agricultural produce and foodstuffs between the two countries demonstrated the fastest growth: in 2025, this growth stood at 17.8 percent; Russian exports to Kazakhstan increased by 15.2 percent, whilst Russian imports from Kazakhstan rose by 34.7 percent. From January to April 2026, trade turnover grew by 30.3 percent year-on-year, with Russian exports to Kazakhstan up by 27.1 percent and Russian imports from Kazakhstan surging by 49.6 percent.
The meeting also addressed issues surrounding the enhancement of transport connectivity, in particular the progress in the development and efficient utilisation of the eastern route of the International North–South Transport Corridor.
When reviewing cultural cooperation projects, the Days of Culture of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Kazakhstan, which commenced in April 2026 in Astana, were highlighted as a particularly significant component of bilateral interaction.
The co-chairs emphasised that the talks are being held ahead of the 22nd Forum of Interregional Cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan, scheduled for 24–25 July in Omsk.
The parties reaffirmed their readiness to continue
constructive dialogue across all areas of interaction between the Russian
Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
