Co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin and Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda, held a meeting as part of the International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum”. The Russian Deputy Prime Minister also had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev.
“Our countries are steadily developing relations of strategic partnership and alliance. President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon are in regular contact. We are building interaction at various platforms: in 2025, the 21st meeting of the intergovernmental commission was held in Moscow, and we are working together within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. We expect that the Conference on Interregional Cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan, which will be held in autumn 2026, will help establish a solid basis for system-wide engagement,” Marat Khusnullin said at a meeting with Kohir Rasulzoda.
Russia is the republic’s leading partner in trade and the economy. Last year, bilateral trade grew by more than 25 percent to reach almost $1.9 billion. The first four months of 2026 also saw an impressive increase in trade – nearly 20 percent.
We also develop trade with the Republic of Azerbaijan, noted Marat Khusnullin at the meeting with Shahin Mustafayev. Last year, Russian-Azerbaijani trade amounted to $4.1 billion. The countries intend to increase mutual payments in national currencies.
“The credit for this goes, in part, to the trust-based dialogue between the leaders of our countries, Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev. Russian companies are actively operating on the Azerbaijani market, implementing major projects in machine-building, construction, transport, chemical, pharmaceutical and medical industries. There are about 1,800 companies with Russian capital represented there. Cooperation is also developing at the regional level: 75 Russian regions are maintaining trade and economic ties with Azerbaijan,” Marat Khusnullin said.
He thanked his foreign colleagues for constructive dialogue and engaged participation in the KazanForum.
