First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Airlangga Hartarto co-chaired the 14th session of the Russia-Indonesia Joint Commission for Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation on the sidelines of the KazanForum Russia – Islamic World International Forum.
The agenda focused on economic matters. Over the past five years, trade between Russia and Indonesia more than doubled, almost reaching $5 billion as of the end of 2025.
“Signed in late 2025, the Free Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Indonesia is expected to serve as an additional factor for expanding and diversifying trade. Russia expects all parties to complete their internal procedures by the end of this year for this agreement to come into force. Facilitating market access for goods on a reciprocal basis must go hand in hand with an effort to expand direct business-to-business ties. Scheduled to take place in July in Yekaterinburg, the Innoprom exhibition will serve as an additional opportunity for achieving this objective. Indonesia will have the status of a partner country at this event,” Denis Manturov said.
The meeting’s agenda also covered cooperation in agriculture, energy, transport, manufacturing and high technology.
“The participation by a high-level delegation from Indonesia in the Space Week which took place in Russia in April helped step up our dialogue in the space sector. There are already several promising projects in the pipeline. In particular, Russia has the required competences and experience for training the first Indonesian cosmonaut and sending them to space,” Denis Manturov pointed out.
The two sides recognised the importance of having a sustainable framework for carrying out mutual settlements. In addition to this, they exchanged views on cooperation in education, culture and sports. The participants believe that mutual tourist flows have been following a positive trajectory.
Following the meeting, Denis Manturov and Airlangga Hartarto signed the minutes of the 14th session of the Russia-Indonesia Joint Commission for Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation.
