Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, heading the Russian delegation, attended the inauguration ceremony of the elected President of the Republic of the Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso.
“Russia attaches great importance to the development of comprehensive relations with the Republic of the Congo. We are confident that the implementation of joint projects and the expansion of cooperation across various fields will help deepen partnership between our countries at all levels and bring tangible benefits to the peoples of both states,” Alexander Novak said.
As part of the working visit, the Deputy Prime Minister visited the Russian House in Brazzaville, a regional office of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo). The Russian House’s activities extend to countries including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Gabon, Nigeria and Mali, and are aimed at developing humanitarian ties in education, culture, science and the arts, as well as promoting the Russian language, youth policy initiatives and international development.
Alexander Novak laid flowers at the monument to the first cosmonaut, Yury Gagarin, located on the grounds of the Russian House. The memorial has become a symbol of strengthening friendship between the peoples of Russia and the Republic of the Congo.
