Denis Manturov meets with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev
First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Denis Manturov met with President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the sidelines of the Innoprom Central Asia international industrial exhibition. The discussion focused on bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, as well as the development of cooperation projects in railway engineering, automotive industry, chemical industry, energy and transport infrastructure. Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Denis Manturov also met with heads of Russian regions and representatives of the business community.
Denis Manturov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev also visited an integrated display of Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, Rostec, Rosatom, Transmashholding, and Russian Export Centre stands, displays presented by a number of regions of Russia and Uzbekistan, as well as the national exhibits of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic at the Innoprom Cental Asia expo.
“According to the President of Uzbekistan, this forum has seen further international development. This year’s edition includes participants not only from the Eurasian Economic Union, but also from third countries. We believe that this change will further unlock the potential for multilateral projects. I think this is important, and of interest for business. Region-to-region cooperation [between Russia and Uzbekistan] has reached a qualitatively new level, as President Mirziyoyev noted at his meeting with regional heads and representatives of major Russian businesses. This format of direct interaction between the two countries’ regions creates additional motivation for businesses to build new cooperative ties and expand logistics. Products from Uzbekistan are gaining more presence in the Russian market. We expect the large projects that are on today’s agenda, specifically those in ore mining and chemistry, to make active progress in the near future,” Denis Manturov said, commenting on his meeting with the President of Uzbekistan.
Today, about 80 Russian regions are actively cooperating with Uzbekistan. Last year saw about 180 region-to-region events between the two countries, including 39 visits by heads of Russian regions to Uzbekistan. The two countries are further pursuing the joint effort to establish wholesale distribution centres and trading houses similar to those in Russia. Denis Manturov underscored Russian companies’ interest in expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with Uzbekistani partners. Currently, about 3,000 joint businesses are operating in the country, accounting for about 20 percent of all companies with foreign capital in Uzbekistan.
