Prior to the ceremony, Russian Minister of Transport Roman Starovoit had talks with Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan Rashad Nabiyev.
The signed agreement states a mechanism of coordinating the development of rail freight traffic and infrastructure on the western route of the INSTC. Conditions will be facilitated for freight to cross the border, and the rates of freight traffic growth will be balanced with rail infrastructure development.
“Today’s agreement is historic and fundamental for the development of the entire North-South corridor. Our infrastructure projects are aimed at ensuring at least 15 million tonnes to be carried, and shippers are interested in this corridor. Overall, the railway to the port of Bandar Abbas will create economic conditions for intensive development of the entire corridor,’ said Vitaly Savelyev, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia.
