The First Deputy Prime Minister led the Russian delegation at the inauguration of President-elect Prabowo Subianto on the instruction of President Vladimir Putin. Denis Manturov was received by the President of Indonesia and held talks with Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.
Russian-Indonesian trade and economic relations show favourable dynamics. “Over the past three years, mutual trade has grown by 75 percent and reached $4.1 billion by the end of 2023. This year, despite unfavourable external factors, we have managed to maintain a stable level of trade,” Denis Manturov said.
The First Deputy Prime Minister discussed bilateral cooperation in trade, the economy and humanitarian sphere with his Indonesian colleagues. The conclusion of a Free Trade Agreement between Indonesia and the EAEU is of great importance for strengthening trade and economic cooperation. Work on the draft agreement is at an advanced stage. Speaking about specific sectors of cooperation, Denis Manturov singled out the agro-industrial complex. ”We have restored supplies of Russian wheat to Indonesia and see prerequisites for growth in supplies given Russia's leading position in the global grain market. Russia is also ready to increase exports of mineral fertilisers, which are in demand in Indonesia, and to meet the needs of Indonesian partners in fuel, including oil and LNG,” he stressed. The promising areas of interaction discussed during the working visit included the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and space.
Next year Russia and Indonesia will mark the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. The Soviet Union was one of the first countries to recognise Indonesia’s independence from the Netherlands in 1950. The plan of joint events to mark this milestone date has already been drawn up. The next meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Indonesian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which will be held in March 2025, will include an extensive business and cultural programme.
