Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak had a working meeting with Iranian Petroleum Minister Javad Owji.
The Deputy Prime Minister offered his condolences to the people of Iran following the loss of President Ebrahim Raisi and other delegation members on 19 May. He noted that Raisi was a patriot of his country and truly a people’s president who did much for Russia-Iran relations.
During the talks, the parties discussed bilateral cooperation across all the tracks overseen by the Russian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission, including cooperation in the economy, energy, transport and tourism.
As of the first quarter of 2024, bilateral trade grew by 48 percent year-on-year. Russia’s exports to Iran grew by 77 percent and imports from Iran by 13 percent.
“I would like to note the launch of regular direct flights by Mahan Air between Grozny and Tehran on 10 June 2024. I am certain that this opportunity will encourage mutual tourist traffic between Iran and the North Caucasus,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Alexander Novak introduced Minister of Energy Sergei Tsivilev as the new chair of the Russian chapter of the Permanent Russian-Iranian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. Mr Novak added that he was ready to continue his personal participation in and assistance with any matters concerning Russia-Iran links.
The Deputy Prime Minister invited Javad Owji to take part in the BRICS summit in Kazan on 22–24 October 2024, the Caucasus Investment Forum on 15–17 July and the Russian Energy Week on 26–28 September, including the BRICS Energy Week during this international forum.
