In Moscow, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev and Minister of State, Minister of Energy of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria Mohamed Arkab co-chaired the 13th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Russian-Algerian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation. The parties discussed collaboration between the two states across energy, industry, agriculture, education, and other fields.
“We truly value the long-standing friendly relations that bind Russia and Algeria. I am convinced that the existing collaboration serves the long-term interests of the peoples of both states. Indeed, direct contacts between the leaders of our countries serve to strengthen this trust-based dialogue. Algeria is among Russia’s key partners in North Africa. Last year, bilateral trade grew by more than 50 percent. The current momentum is also positive,” emphasised Dmitry Patrushev.
In particular, since the beginning of the current year, trade in agricultural products between the two countries has increased by more than 40 percent compared to the same period in 2025. Russia has significantly increased supplies of soybean oil, wheat, and skimmed milk powder.
One of the principal areas of collaboration is energy. On the sidelines of the intergovernmental commission meeting, a plan was signed to implement a memorandum on metrology, which will contribute to the successful realisation of joint projects in oil and gas industry, nuclear energy, and mechanical engineering.
In addition, the two countries are developing a partnership in standardisation. This will enable Algeria to adopt Russian standards, thereby simplifying mutual trade.
“We expect that the outcomes of the meeting will contribute to the implementation of joint projects and the further development of collaboration between Russia and Algeria,” concluded Dmitry Patrushev.
Following the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and the Minister of Energy of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria signed the final protocol of the 13th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Russian-Algerian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation. Furthermore, agreements on cooperation in science, tourism, and customs affairs were concluded as part of the event.
The Joint Intergovernmental Russian-Algerian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation has been in operation since 2013. Dmitry Patrushev has chaired the Russian delegation since 5 February 2020, while the Algerian delegation has been headed by Minister of State, Minister of Energy Mohamed Arkab since November 2025. The previous meeting was held in Algeria on 28–30 January 2025.
