In Windhoek, Namibia, Deputy Prime Minister, Plenipotentiary Presidential Representative in the Far Eastern Federal District, and Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Russian-Namibian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation Yury Trutnev discussed the development of bilateral trade and economic ties with President of the Republic of Namibia Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
“We have done a good job as a team within the framework of the Intergovernmental Commission. And we also intend to continue this work. We expect our friends to take part in the process of creating value-added in Namibia, which will help to develop the economy and bring down the level of poverty in the country. The trade and economic turnover figures are certainly below the level of our political cooperation. Our economic cooperation should be on a par with political cooperation. We have a long history of relations and the ties between our countries are growing even stronger. I want to assure you that this trend will continue,” President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said. Yury Trutnev congratulated Mrs Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on her election to the presidency of the Republic of Namibia and the South West Africa’s Peoples Organisation (SWAPO).
“You and I worked together at the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation for many years. The Commission has been created to strengthen friendship between our two peoples. I am sincerely grateful to you for this joint work. This work has been productive. The volume of our bilateral trade and economic ties has doubled. But we have things to do in the future. Given your attitude towards the Russian Federation, I am looking forward to the development of friendship between our countries. I want to assure you that I will do my best for this to be so,” Yury Trutnev said.
The officials discussed prospects for implementing joint prospects in industry, subsurface management, geological exploration, energy, agriculture, science and education.
“No matter what major Russian company Namibia works with, it will primarily work with the Government of the Russian Federation. This is a different level of responsibility. It is important for the Government of Russia to improve our relationship and bring benefits to both countries. Jointly with the Rosatom State Corporation, one of the leading energy companies in the world, the Government of the Russian Federation is ready to continue the negotiations on expanding the possibilities of using atomic energy for peaceful purposes. We are ready to consider other proposals on cooperation in production and processing of mineral resources, science and education. Our joint work has led to the extension of the quota for training Namibian students in Russia. The world is rapidly changing. We are ready for these changes and thankful to Namibia for keeping its friendly attitude to our country,” Yury Trutnev noted.
They also discussed plans
for holding the 11th meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Namibian
Commission scheduled for Windhoek.
