First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov met with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Zhamshid Khodjaev in Moscow. The co-chairs of the Russian-Uzbekistani Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation discussed priority aspects of bilateral cooperation.
Trade and economic relations between Russia and Uzbekistan are making active progress across the board. “According to preliminary estimates, in 2024, mutual trade turnover grew 5.2 percent to over $10 billion, with both Russia’s exports and imports from Uzbekistan increasing steadily,” Denis Manturov said. According to Jamshid Khodjaev, Uzbekistan takes an even more optimistic view of the bilateral trade dynamics, evaluating it at $11.7 billion.
Denis Manturov emphasised the significant potential of region-to-region cooperation to further expand trade, economic and investment ties between the two countries. In 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Uzbekistani President Shavkat Mirziyoyev co-chaired a meeting of the Council of Regions of Russia and Uzbekistan, which resulted in the signing of cooperation agreements worth over 220 billion roubles.
The exchange of high-ranking delegations is also intensifying, with heads of Russian regions making 39 visits to Uzbekistan last year. Positive dynamics is also observed in tourism, as Russian tourists made 515,000 trips to Uzbekistan last year.
Russia and Uzbekistan are expanding cooperation in higher education. There are 14 branches of Russian universities operating in Uzbekistan, which is a record high among Central Asian countries. Another branch of the All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade is in the process of registration.
