The meeting was held in the run-up to the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting and Digital Almaty Forum 2021.
Excerpts from the transcript:
Askar Mamin: Mr Mishustin, welcome to Kazakhstan. Colleagues, we are pleased to see you in the run-up to the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting. We are also pleased to have this opportunity to discuss our bilateral relations, which have always been of a strategic nature.
Last year, despite the complex economic developments and global crisis, we managed to keep our trade almost at 2019 levels. New areas of cooperation have become available, which we welcome. Mr Mishustin, on a separate note, I would like to thank you for your cooperation during the challenging times of the pandemic. We have received the Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine and widespread vaccination began in Kazakhstan on February 1. We are confident that our strategic cooperation covering almost all areas will continue in 2021.
Mikhail Mishustin: Mr Mamin, I would like to take this opportunity to convey my warmest and best wishes to President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and first President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. I would like to congratulate you once again on your appointment to this high post after an impressive victory for the party led by your first President.
I would also like to thank you for the productive cooperation on a bilateral basis, which we are constantly carrying out, and within the EAEU. We discuss many issues among ourselves, which we will also discuss as part of the EAEU agenda tomorrow. I would also like to welcome the wonderful initiative to hold a digital forum in Almaty which is timed to coincide with the Intergovernmental Council meeting, which will be my second meeting of that kind.
Today’s agenda is interesting as well. We have exchanged views and much has already been accomplished. Kazakhstan and our partners from the EAEU countries have done a lot to create our union’s digital agenda. We will take a look at the COVID-19-related apps developed, among others, by the Eurasian Development Bank, such as “Traveling without COVID-19,” and the ones that help find employment. We have discussed this. In fact, this work has been completed.
I would like to thank you once again for the excellent organisation of all our events. I look forward to our productive efforts, which we will begin right away.
