Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk had a working meeting, on the sidelines of the 24th St Petersburg International Economic Forum, with the Mongolian delegation headed by Deputy Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia Bukhchuluun Purevdorj.
The sides discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral Russian-Mongolian cooperation and within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, focussing on joint steps to effectively implement the interim trade agreement between the EAEU and Mongolia which has been ratified by all EAEU member states and Mongolia and will enter into force in the near future, thus abolishing duties on key goods.
Trade relations between Russia and Mongolia highlight sustained positive trends. In 2025, bilateral trade increased by four percent and reached $2.7 billion. In the first quarter of 2026, the Russian-Mongolian trade turnover soared by 28.3 percent and totalled $767.7 million.
Alexei Overchuk and Bukhchuluun Purevdorj noted substantial progress in addressing issues of the bilateral agenda and discussed opportunities for deepening trade and economic ties between the Russian Federation and Mongolia, including the implementation of specific projects in energy, the industry, agriculture and customs regulation. They devoted separate attention to expanding operations of the Russian-Mongolian shareholding company Ulaanbaatar Railway in order to improve Eurasian transport connectivity and to unlock the transit potential of Mongolia.
Following the talks, the sides reaffirmed their mutual commitment to the sustained and comprehensive development of practical cooperation aimed at strengthening relations of strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and Mongolia. They also agreed to continue dialogue at all levels for analysing in detail the projects discussed.
