Dmitry Chernyshenko holds a working meeting with Governor of Santiago de Cuba Province Manuel Falcón Hernández
During his working visit to the Republic of Cuba, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko held a meeting with Governor of Santiago de Cuba Province Manuel Falcón Hernández.
The visit of the Russian delegation led by Dmitry Chernyshenko to Cuba has an extensive programme that includes the 22nd meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Cuban Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Havana.
The meeting with the Governor of Santiago de Cuba Province Manuel Falcón Hernández took place at the Government Palace of the Santiago de Cuba Province. The participants discussed bilateral matters.
The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the Governor for the warm reception.
“Our delegation is here on behalf of President Vladimir Putin. The fact that we start our visit to Cuba from Santiago de Cuba, which is honoured with the title of hero city, is not accidental. Our countries enjoy long-standing ties of brotherhood, and interaction in the spirit of strategic partnership that dates back to the 1960s,” Dmitry Chernyshenko said.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that this year Russia and the whole world mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Cuba honours the heroes of the nation just as Russia honours the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. In addition, 2025 marks the 65th anniversary of resumed diplomatic relations between the two countries.
He compared Santiago de Cuba to Sevastopol or Stalingrad, which became examples of the fight for freedom and determined the future of nations.
“Just like Cuba, Russia relies on patriotism and comprehensive development of our youth. You have experience of pioneer organisations, and we have Yunarmia. Educating the youth is one of our core tasks. It is important for the children to grow up strong in spirit, know their history, and love their Motherland. Thousands of Cubans studied in the Soviet Union, and thousands of Russians love Cuban culture. Of course, we want to revive festivals and student exchanges, as well as joint projects in cinema and music,” Dmitry Chernyshenko said.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted the growing interest of Russian entities and investors in developing cooperation with Cuba, and emphasised that both countries will continue to work on specific projects to ensure economic and cultural sovereignty.
Governor of the Santiago de Cuba Province Manuel Falcón Hernández spoke about various aspects of the city’s development, including the economic and cultural components. Also, representatives of the Cuban delegation said that in 2025 the city of Santiago de Cuba marks its 510 anniversary, and celebrations will be held accordingly.
“We are honoured to host the Russian delegation. In Russia, we felt that the Russian people like the Cuban people, and we hope that during your visit to the Republic of Cuba you will also feel the hospitality of the Cuban people. On behalf of the Cubans, I would like to thank you once again. We will always stand with you, and we will always be united and stand together,” the Governor noted.
