The Russian Deputy Prime Minister was received by Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and held a meeting of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Armenia.
On 13–14 September, the Russian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk is on a working visit to the Republic of Armenia.
In Yerevan, Alexei Overchuk was received by Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, with whom he discussed the current state and development prospects for bilateral cooperation between Russia and Armenia, as well interaction within the Eurasian Economic Union.
Continuing his visit, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan met as co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Armenia. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the two countries’ respective ministries and agencies.
During the talks, Alexei Overchuk noted that cooperation between Russia and Armenia was developing dynamically and successfully in all economic sectors.
“Numbers and facts speak louder than words. In 2023, our mutual trade grew by 55.8 percent, up to $7.4 billion. This year, the growth has accelerated. Over the first six months alone, bilateral trade accounted for $8.4 billion. We may well reach the $14–16 billion mark by the end of the year. In 2020, it was $2.3 billion,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
According to Alexei Overchuk, relations that have developed between the countries within the Eurasian Economic Union contribute to the positive dynamics of the Armenian economy. Since joining the EAEU in 2015, Armenia’s GDP per capita has increased 2.3 times.
The parties discussed current issues of implementing joint projects in industry, energy, transport and logistics, finance and investment. During the meeting of the co-chairs of the intergovernmental commission, special attention was given to the cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
An in-depth discussion was held on the prospects of promoting bilateral humanitarian ties by implementing joint secondary and higher education projects.
The Deputy Prime Minister thanked his Armenian colleagues for the traditional hospitality, constructive attitude, and friendly atmosphere extended to the Russian delegation. Following the meeting, the co-chairs of the intergovernmental commission agreed to hold the next meeting of the commission in the Russian Federation in the near future.
