Russia Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak chaired the 21st meeting of the Russian-Chinese Intergovernmental Commission on Energy Cooperation, which was held in Moscow. The Chinese co-chair of the commission is Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Ding Xuexiang.
The parties have discussed a wide range of issues on developing cooperation in oil, gas, coal, nuclear and power engineering sectors, as well as in renewable power and energy decarbonisation, and agreed to boost Russian-Chinese strategic relations in energy and promote them.
“The current year is a special one for Russia and China. The People’s Republic of China was established 75 years ago, on 1 October 1949. On 2 October, the day after the People’s Republic of China was proclaimed, the Soviet Union was the first in the world to recognise the new China and establish diplomatic relations. Russia and China regard each other as priority partners, invariably adhering to the principles of respectful, trust-based, equal partnership and resolute mutual support on key issues for both sides. The intensive trustful dialogue between the heads of state plays an essential role in promoting the system of ties between the two countries,” Alexander Novak said in his opening remarks.
Last year, Russia-China trade reached a record $230 billion. Meanwhile, the mutual settlements have been fully transferred to roubles and yuan.
“The purpose of my visit to Russia is to implement, jointly with my Russian colleagues, the essential agreements reached by our heads of state during their two meetings this year, and to boost investment and energy cooperation,” Ding Xuexiang noted.
As a follow-up to the Intergovernmental Commission meeting, the sides signed a protocol to consolidate their agreements in oil, gas, coal, power engineering and nuclear areas, as well as in renewable energy and climate technology.
The Vice Premier also addressed the opening of the 6th Russia-China Energy Business Forum, whose participants included leading Russian and Chinese companies, major banks, government officials, and members of the scientific community.
“The fuel and energy complex is the paramount component in Russia-China trade and economic cooperation, which has been consistently developing over the recent years, with growing investments, increasing supplies of equipment and raw materials, and joint projects underway,” Alexander Novak said in his opening remarks.
