Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk has taken part in a meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which took place in Tashkent, the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In 2025, Tajikistan took over from the Russian Federation as the country chairing the CIS. During the meeting, Council members exchanged views on trade and economic cooperation within the CIS.
They approved a Package of Measures to Attract and Promote Mutual Investment within the CIS until 2030. This initiative is expected to improve the business environment.
The participants went on to approve a Concept for Harmonising Air Traffic Management Systems among CIS Member States. This document is designed to harmonise national air traffic management systems by enacting a single set of rules and technologies when serving airspace users, while also improving security, ensuring flight regularity and cost-effectiveness for civilian air carriers and improving air traffic service quality.
The CIS Cooperation Agreement for Developing Heavy Machine Building was also approved at the meeting. Its main goal consists of promoting manufacturing in the sector of heavy machinery by fostering cooperation, mastering new manufacturing technologies and competencies, as well as sharing best practices.
Members of the CIS Economic Council heard a progress report on the CIS Protocol for Exchanging E-Data in Tax Administration, dated 2 November 2018. Efforts to promote international cooperation along this track are expected to enable CIS member states to harmonise their approaches to tax administration by streamlining and upgrading them with the view to generating more tax revenue for their budgets, while also making their interactions with taxpayers more efficient by offering a taxpayer-friendly environment.
CIS countries have been effectively cooperating with each other when implementing the Roadmap for Joint CIS Efforts to Explore, Use and Protect Mineral Deposits in 2023–2030, the participants in the meeting noted. This concerted effort helps their respective geological agencies step up cooperation on matters dealing with geologic mapping using the latest IT solutions, creating global geological databases, introducing single standards, certification and metrology requirements in geological surveys, promoting the digital transition for the geological sector, harmonising national classifiers for mineral deposits to make sure that they conform to international systems, creating geological parks, etc.
The agenda also included several items dealing with statistics, promoting SMEs, developing the insurance market and archives, and radio positioning in CIS member states.
The CIS Economic Council is scheduled to hold its next meeting on 18 July 2025.
