During his official visit to Uzbekistan, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko had a meeting with President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Representing the Russian side at the meeting were Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov, Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexei Chekunkov, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Uzbekistan Oleg Malginov. The Uzbekistani delegation included Minister of Preschool and School Education Hilola Umarova and Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovations Kongratbay Sharipov.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev acknowledged Russia as a global power with significant influence and expressed his joy and pride on behalf of the friendly nations and BRICS countries.
The Deputy Prime Minister conveyed his gratitude for the meeting and remarked that in May of this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev delineated the primary vectors of cooperation for the benefit of the citizens of the two nations and set long-term goals. The implementation of these decisions and agreements remains a priority for the governments of both countries, with the respective roadmap nearing completion. The Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan continues to serve as a vital mechanism for fostering bilateral relations.
During the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister also underscored the significance of enhancing relations between the regions of Uzbekistan and Russia. Alexei Chekunkov, the Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, elaborated on the potential for collaboration with the Far East.
Furthermore, Dmitry Chernyshenko emphasised the importance of cooperation in science and education, highlighting Russia’s achievements in ensuring technological sovereignty and proposing combining efforts with Uzbekistan to develop joint scientific projects. Specifically, he announced an arrangement to conduct a seminar for Uzbek experts on managing the system of scientific and technological development.
Last year, the Institute of Nuclear Physics of Uzbekistan became a member of the International Association of Scientific Organizations, the Centre for Synchrotron, Neutron and Laser Research, established at the Kurchatov Institute. This affiliation will provide Uzbek scientists access to megascience-standard research infrastructure and promote the participation of the scientific community in collaborative advanced scientific research.
Uzbekistan leads in the number of branches of Russian universities abroad, with 14 branches of leading Russian universities currently situated in the Republic.
In addition, Dmitry Chernyshenko highlighted the rapid progress in youth cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan and proposed signing an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in youth policy. He also suggested establishing a permanent consultative mechanism for regular meetings and the development of plans with specific events and programmes for the medium term. Furthermore, he advocated for the resumption of bilateral Russian-Uzbek youth forums.
Mr Chernyshenko expressed his gratitude for the respectful commemoration of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and noted the importance of the international team working on the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, expressing support for its operations in Uzbekistan.
“A heartfelt gratitude to the esteemed President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his sincere regard for our country and for such a crucial subject as education, upbringing, and the instruction of our children. Indeed, the values upheld in our country by the order of President Vladimir Putin and the values we have observed here coincide. One needs only to visit the remarkable Victory Park. This is a gift from your President not only to the people of Uzbekistan but also to all those who contributed to the shared Victory. For the sake of our ancestors’ memory, we must always remember this and convey it to our children and grandchildren. This systemic work is being undertaken here in Uzbekistan,” the Deputy Prime Minister stated.
Dmitry Chernyshenko also underscored the successful development of sports cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan, recognising the participation of Uzbek athletes in Russian events, including the Games of the Future, and expressed gratitude for the interest in this tournament. The Deputy Prime Minister also noted the accomplishments in the field of tourism, highlighting that last year, the mutual tourist flow increased by 100 percent, reaching 1.2 million trips.
As a reminder, Uzbekistan has today ratified the treaty on the establishment of the International Organisation for the Russian Language, with the respective law signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The organisation was founded in October 2023 on the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Its primary objectives include the promotion of the Russian language as a means of international communication and its use for the advancement of literature, historical and scientific knowledge. In addition to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, the treaty establishing the organisation was signed by Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan.
