Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of Staff of the Government Executive Office Dmitry Grigorenko held a meeting with the delegation of the UN Secretariat on hosting the 20th UN Internet Governance Forum 2025 in Russia.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that Russia is ready to serve as the forum organiser. St Petersburg’s Expoforum Convention and Exhibition Centre was suggested as venue.
As part of the visit of the UN Secretariat assessment mission, members of the delegation led by Chengetai Masango toured the Government Coordination Centre, where they visited the situation centre that conducts work on a regular basis to monitor the country’s national development goals.
The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media’s application on hosting the anniversary IGF 2025 in Russia was confirmed by the UN Secretariat back in 2020.
During this period, an application committee was established to interact with the UN Secretariat regarding the organisation of the event. It includes representatives of the Russian Presidential Executive Office, Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, Ministry of Finance, Federal Security Service, Federal Customs Service, and St Petersburg government.
The Internet Governance Forum has taken place under the auspices of the UN since 2006. The event serves as a global platform for open dialogue on the internet development between government officials, businesspeople, technical experts, and representatives of civil society.
