Mikhail Mishustin: Participants in the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, colleagues,
Welcome to Sochi! This southern Russian city marked its 185th anniversary in late May. I have no doubt it will charm you with its warm hospitality.
I would like to start by conveying President Vladimir Putin’s best regards to you.
We have a busy programme. The Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and congress is underway. The CIS Council of Heads of Government will take place as well. We will tour integration projects at the Eurasia is Our Home exhibition. A number of other important events and, of course, our bilateral meetings will take place as well.
At a Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting in Moscow on May 25, President Putin noted that cooperation within the union continues to grow stronger. Our association is asserting itself as an independent and self-sufficient centre in the emerging multipolar world.
Our countries are bound by many years of friendship. We respect each other's interests, work as a team in a variety of areas, and address issues that are important for our citizens to make the Eurasian space a comfortable place to live and do business.
Our integration has a proven track record and enjoys high demand. Mutual trade is up by almost 90 percent since 2015. As of late 2022, this number reached an all-time high in the history of the union.
We are creating new cooperation links in the industry and digital transformation. We are forming common markets for gas, oil, and electricity. We have plans to create new logistics opportunities and, of course, expand cooperation with our international partners.
Deepening interaction is especially important now that system-wide global economic issues have exacerbated.
This year, Russia is chairing the EAEU bodies. President Putin identified the priorities of our chairmanship in an address to the leaders of the five countries. These priorities include expanding technological capacity and self-reliance, strengthening food security, and developing transport infrastructure that meets today's economic realities.
We believe our main goal is to ensure the union’s progress across all areas with consideration for the interests of every country. Above all, we are doing this to adapt to modern challenges.
Today, as a small group, we will discuss the key items on the Eurasian agenda which are many, which in turn, reflects the massive scale of the tasks facing the five countries.
Given the circumstances, it is particularly important to coordinate our actions. It is imperative to move quickly when making and implementing our decisions. This is what our people, business leaders and our many international partners, who are interested in cooperating with us, are expecting us to do.
I wish productive work to all of us.
