Excerpts from the transcript:
Serzh Sargsyan: Last time, during your official visit, we discussed the most pressing and sensitive issues on our agenda. I think that today we will continue that conversation. Back then, it was a difficult period for our region, caused by Azerbaijan breaching the 1994-1995 agreements. Just a few days ago, I returned from Vienna, where, upon the initiative of the foreign ministers, members of the OSCE Minsk Group, we discussed the situation at hand and the ways out of it. We agreed to conduct continuous monitoring and implement a mechanism for investigating ceasefire violations. Of course, we will do our best to prevent such violations, and we hope that the foreign ministers, the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, will consistently implement our common decisions. Welcome, Mr Medvedev. I am pleased to see you here.
Dmitry Medvedev: Thank you, Mr Sargsyan. I'm pleased to have this opportunity to see you again. This is our second meeting this month. This is good, as it indicates the level of relations between our countries, the allied nature of the relations that exist between our two nations and countries.
Last time, we held bilateral talks. Today, we will hold a full-scale intergovernmental meeting of our Eurasian community. We will consider various, primarily, economic issues that are important for all countries. Thank you for hosting this meeting of the heads of government in Yerevan. This is the first time you are hosting such an event. The head of our Eurasian Commission also represents Armenia, so in this sense it is symbolic. We will discuss things, and your colleagues from the Government will report on the outcome of our discussion. I am confident that we will reach the necessary agreements in order to, I’ll say it again, stimulate our respective economies.
Indeed, my previous visit took place amid a fairly complicated situation. I will say it right away that we, in Russia, were following the developments very closely, and tried to help resolve the situation as best we could. Importantly, the cessation of hostilities should be maintained. In this context, we, of course, welcome your meeting with the President of Azerbaijan in Vienna, as well as the efforts within the Minsk Group which are being taken in order to maintain the dialogue, and to avoid these kinds of incidents in the future. I’m talking about compliance with the agreements, which were historically achieved in 1994-1995, and of course, ways to move towards a more lasting peace in the region and achieve a final settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Rest assured that Russia has always helped and will continue to provide its assistance in resolving this complex conflict.
We will now discuss everything that is connected with it.
Serzh Sargsyan: Thank you.
