Prime Minister Medvedev said that he is hopeful that the newly renovated runway will enable the Vnukovo Airport to further raise the level of passenger comfort.
Reopening of the second Vnukovo runway after renovation
Mr Medvedev heard the Minister of Transport’s report on location after returning from a working trip to the Yaroslavl Region.
According to Mr Sokolov, the newly renovated runway, also known by its Russian acronym, VPP-1, will allow the airport to increase its passenger traffic up to an annual 30 million.
“This runway will be certified as belonging to the third (top) ICAO class, meaning that it is usable day and night, in all seasons, in any kind of weather, and by any type of jet,” Mr Sokolov said.
Second Vnukovo runway reopens after renovation
Jetliners taking off from Vnukovo will now be able to make maximum-range flights, including to destinations in Latin America and Australia.
“I hope that this will raise passenger comfort, and that there will now be fewer flight delays,” Mr Medvedev said. He also stressed the need to care for the quality of runways in other cities in Russia.
