Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin took part in a meeting of the heads of the Russia-Islamic World Strategic Vision Group with ambassadors of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation member states. The meeting was also attended by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Chairman of the Group, Head of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.
In his welcoming remarks, Marat Khusnullin noted Russia’s constant readiness to serve as a reliable partner for Islamic states. He also emphasised that the current situation created new possibilities to strengthen these relations.
“According to Russia’s foreign policy priorities set by President Vladimir Putin, cooperation with Islamic countries has reached a new level of strategic partnership. Today, we can see how this cooperation, based on mutual respect and common interests, covers a wide range of areas and demonstrates impressive development dynamics. Significant economic growth can be proven by the figures: over the past four years, Russia’s trade with the states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation has increased by 44 percent and amounted to $163 billion by the end of 2024. Another key factor in strengthening cooperation has been the development of the North-South and West-East transport corridors, which can radically change global logistics,” Marat Khusnullin said.
Over the past 15 years, the Russia-Islamic World Strategic Vision Group has made a meaeningful contribution to the development of international cooperation by actively promoting enhanced dialogue and mutual understanding between countries. Last year, major events were successfully held, including the annual meeting of the group and the Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum International Economic Forum.
Marat Khusnullin added that the next Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum International Economic Forum is scheduled for May 13–18. Its business programme includes Islamic finance, partnership banking, the Halal industry, cooperation in construction, youth diplomacy, export development, entrepreneurship and investment.
Head of Tatarstan, Chairman of the Group Rustam Minnikhanov thanked all foreign and Russian members for their contribution to the activities of the Russia-Islamic World Strategic Vision Group.
“Expanding cooperation with Muslim countries is a priority of the Russian foreign policy. Today, this cooperation is gaining special important. I would like to invite everyone to the Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum International Economic Forum, which will be held in May. The forum has a busy programme. The topic of the plenary session is Digitalisation: New Reality and Additional Opportunities for Expanding Cooperation. The annual meeting of the Russia-Islamic World Strategic Vision Group is also scheduled for May 15–16. Its topic is Experience of Russia and the Islamic Countries on Youth Policy: Common Challenges and Joint Actions. Today, about 70 percent of the population of the Islamic world are young people. Our duty is to instill a careful attitude towards their history and culture in the younger generation. To this end, the next meeting of the Russia-Islamic World Strategic Vision Group will be devoted to youth policy,” Rustam Minnikhanov added.
The Russia-Islamic World Strategic Vision Group was established in 2006, after Russia received the status of an observer state at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. The group has become an important platform for a dialogue between Russia and the Islamic world, where current issues of world affairs are discussed, including the developments in the Middle East and Central Asia, as well as the entire complex of relations between Russia and the countries of the Islamic East.
