Excerpts from the transcript:
Mikhail Mishustin: I am delighted to welcome you, Mr President. We saw
each other last September in Tehran, and I am pleased to meet with you again.
Your visit to Russia is of historic importance. You and President Putin will sign a treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran. This major new treaty will lay a solid foundation for the development of our cooperation in the long-term perspective.
I want to underscore that Russian-Iranian relations, which are based on the principles of friendship, mutual respect and consideration of each other's interests, are looking to the future. The Russian Government will ensure that all the decisions made at the highest level are implemented in full.
Our trade is steadily growing, having increased by 17 percent last year. We also welcome the fact that Iran is obtaining observer status with the Eurasian Economic Union. This will take place after the free trade agreement enters into force. This status provides for the most favourable treatment for mutual trade and the implementation of all operational projects.
Our governments are actively engaged in work related to transport, primarily concerning the North-South international transport corridor and the energy sector. We are expanding our interaction in education. Over 9,000 your Iranians are studying in Russia. Tourist exchanges are also showing favourable dynamics, with a visa-free regime in place for group tourist trips. We continue to hold Days of Culture of Russia and Iran, along with performers’ tours, film weeks and exhibitions. Citizens of our countries are getting to know each other's rich culture, history and spiritual life, which promotes friendship and good neighbourly relations between Russia and Iran.
Mr President, the floor is yours.
Masoud Pezeshkian (via interpreter): Good afternoon once again, Mr Mishustin, colleagues.
I am very glad to have the opportunity to meet with you today.
It is truly good news that we are to sign an important treaty today. I am confident that this treaty will mark the beginning of a new and stable chapter in our bilateral relations.
Iran is determined to fulfil all agreements that we reached yesterday and those that will be reached today. I must inform you that the Supreme Leader of Iran has instructed us to strictly implement all the agreements reached. I would also like to assure you of this commitment.
I would also like to emphasise that not only a major treaty is expected to be signed during this visit, but also several other agreements that our colleagues have been working on.
Regarding our cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union, I firmly believe that our presence there will give a great boost to the development of bilateral relations.
I have also just been informed that you have received
our invitation and will take part in the economic forum of Caspian states. I am
confident that we will hold another meeting there to discuss additional projects.
