The meeting took place as part of Mikhail Mishustin’s working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Excerpts from the transcript:
Ilham Aliyev: I am happy to see you. Thank you for finding the time to come here. I am very glad that Russia is represented at this conference at a high level. I believe that the discussions will have special significance thanks to your personal participation.
I would also like to thank the Russian Federation for the support it provided to Azerbaijan in the run-up to the decision to hold the conference in Baku and in preparing for COP29. Of course, this is an exceptional event for us. Events of such a scale have never been held in Azerbaijan before. We are delighted that friendly countries are actively participating in this event and are represented at a high level.
Of course, this is a good opportunity to go over our bilateral agenda once again. Although President Putin and I are seeing each other very often often recently, the agenda of our relations is so broad that we need to regularly check everything that has been done and outline future development vectors.
So, once again, welcome!
Mikhail Mishustin: Thank you, Mr Aliyev. I would like to thank you for organising all these events, in particular, holding such a large – probably the largest – UN conference on climate issues. Everyone here appreciates the highest level of organisation.
I would also like to add that President Vladimir Putin conveyed his warmest wishes to you personally yesterday, before my departure. He also asked me to congratulate you on successfully holding this conference, which everyone can already see.
This is the first time this conference takes place in the South Caucasus, which also highlights the special role of Azerbaijan, which, as I know, has done a lot to prepare it. The agenda is complex, and everyone notes the high level of discussions, as well as the balanced final document of the current conference.
As for our bilateral agenda, bilateral trade is growing, as you have said. We cooperate in many sectors: industry, energy, agriculture, cultural and humanitarian ties, and digitisation. [Prime Minister of Azerbaijan] Ali Asadov and I, together with our colleagues from the Government, worked on this entire agenda today.
Once again, thank you very much for your hospitality.
Ilham Aliyev: Thank you. Please pass on my best regards to President Putin, too.
