During her visit, the Deputy Prime Minister met with Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis, Minister of Culture Zaneta Jaunzeme-Grende, Minister of Education Vyacheslav Dombrovsky, and Mayor of Riga Nil Ushakov.
The talks focused on cooperation in the social sphere. In particular, Ms Golodets discussed the possibility of signing agreements on cooperation in education, school and university student exchanges, and cooperation in culture and tourism.
During the meeting with Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis, Ms Golodets presented Russia's position on the so-called non-citizens of Latvia. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the need to respect the rights of non-citizens in full, especially their children, and give them the opportunity to become full-fledged citizens of Latvia.
Ms Golodets also visited the Russian Theatre in Riga, which has recently moved to a fully renovated building in the city centre, and attended the closing events of the Latvian National Song and Dance Festival, featuring performances by over 600 choirs and dance groups, including two choirs from Russia.
