The commission, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets and her Chinese counterpart, Liu Yandong, met in Guilin, China, on September 24.
The officials discussed cooperation in healthcare, in particular disaster medicine, an anti-virus information exchange, as well as education and culture. The Russian side supported the proposal advanced by Liu Yandong to expand student exchanges to 100,000 people by 2020. Both sides also agreed to announce 2014 and 2015 as student exchange years, to begin in Russia in the spring of 2014 and to end with a series of joint events in China in the autumn of 2015. The commission members also supported the idea of shooting a joint Russian-Chinese feature film.
“Russian-Chinese humanitarian cooperation has reached the highest level ever. The initiatives on university cooperation, the study of Russian and Chinese in our countries and filmmaking will also give an economic impetus to bilateral relations and stimulate the growth of prosperity in our countries,” Ms Golodets said at the joint briefing following the meeting.
