”This year's Open Week is aligned with the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China. A decade ago, President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of China Xi Jinping made a historic decision to establish a joint university, MSU-BIT. Since then, it has become a cornerstone of bilateral cooperation in higher education, science, and innovation. Today, more than 3,400 undergraduate and postgraduate students are enrolled across 14 faculties at MSU-BIT, and significant advanced scientific centres have been established. The landmark initiative of MSU and its Rector Viktor Sadovnichy – Nauka 0+ Open Week in China – represents yet another bridge of friendship between our nations, and our university and academic communities,“ stated the Deputy Prime Minister.
Dmitry Chernyshenko further noted that the main theme of the week, Science Around Us, will bring together over 500 diverse events. Leading Russian and Chinese scholars, science communicators, and representatives from science-based companies will share their knowledge and practices in the field of research and development.
Academician Viktor Sadovnichy, Rector of Moscow University, highlighted the significance of the Nauka 0+ Open Week in Shenzhen for the advancement of science and education.
”This is the second occasion on which we are conducting the Nauka 0+ Open Week at the collaborative Russian-Chinese University, MSU-BIT. This initiative is a gesture from the academic communities of Russia and China to all who share our belief that science and education are pivotal areas for the development of civilisation and serve as the foundation for cooperation between nations in the contemporary world. During the Nauka 0+ Open Week, our students and faculty, alongside leading scientists from research institutes, will participate in numerous popular science and educational events. These events aim to remind society of the outcomes and significance of researchers' endeavours. It is crucial to illustrate, through exemplary scientific achievements, how scientific discoveries impact our present and future,“ emphasised Viktor Sadovnichy.
The festival is organised by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, with support from Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and various research and educational organisations and corporations. On the Chinese side, the event is organised by the Russian-Chinese collaborative Shenzhen MSU-BIT University and the Shenzhen city government.
From October 25 to 27, leading Russian scholars will deliver popular science lectures. Festival attendees will have the opportunity to learn about liquid wires, create a magnet, feed a single-celled hydra, and extract DNA from a banana during master classes. They will also witness a unique FNIRS device designed to simultaneously read brain parameters of several individuals. Visitors can attempt to determine the age of a fish by its scales, print their own DNA using a 3D printer, and learn Chinese calligraphy. Additionally, during a ”bio-excursion,“ participants will be introduced to the flora of the MSU-BIT campus.
The festival aims to communicate to the general public, in clear and accessible language, what science is, what scientists do, how scientific research enhances the quality of life, and the prospects it offers to contemporary individuals.
