Mikhail Mishustin’s opening remarks:
Good afternoon, colleagues.
The new Omicron strain has been identified in nearly all regions of the Russian Federation.
The growing incidence rate is increasing the burden on the entire healthcare system, especially primary care. Overloaded doctors have to work practically around the clock in outpatient clinics and help patients who are receiving treatment at home.
Under these conditions, it is very important to identify the virus promptly. To do this we must maintain a high testing rate for the coronavirus, as the President instructed.
We also need to continue to further study new circulating strains. We will allocate about 400 million roubles for genetic testing – sequence analyses. We will also earmark additional funds for the purchase of reagents and the consumables that are needed for detecting Omicron.
Timely studies are required for effective monitoring of the changes in the situation.
