The directive goes into effect on 1 August
Russia lifts restrictions on crossing the border with Abkhazia, which were introduced due to the coronavirus situation. Mikhail Mishustin signed the respective directive.
As of today, Russian citizens can freely travel to Abkhazia while Abkhazia residents can come to Russia.
The decision to reopen the border with Abkhazia was made on 31 July following a meeting of the emergency response centre headed by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova.
Reports by Rospotrebnadzor agency and the Healthcare Ministry on the epidemiological situation in Abkhazia and the readiness of its infrastructure for accommodating tourists were taken into account.
