The meeting was held on the sidelines of the First Caspian Economic Forum.
Excerpts from the transcript:
Dmitry Medvedev: Mr Jahangiri, welcome. Events like this summit
in Turkmenistan are a good opportunity to compare notes.
This is important, especially considering the important development programmes our countries are implementing while not being in a favourable global political environment. However, we continue to develop despite the sanctions pressure. I believe this meeting is a chance to discuss the elements in our cooperation that need to be strengthened or promoted.
Last time we met was in Sochi. It was a little cooler, but the weather is good here, too.
Eshaq Jahangiri (via interpreter): I am also happy that we have managed to hold a meeting here on the sidelines of our Caspian summit. As you have noted, we have many issues to discuss. It is true that such events give us the opportunity to discuss issues related to the development of bilateral relations.
Regarding the Caspian Sea, I must say that the economic aspect of relations between the littoral states is of great importance for everyone. And this event, this forum being held for the first time, can truly boost this development. As you noted in your speech, in addition to the economic aspects in our relations, we must focus on the environment of the Caspian Sea.
I understand that the second round of this economic forum will be held in Russia. I think we will be able to make more important decisions there.
