The meeting was held as part of Dmitry Medvedev’s official visit to Bulgaria.
Statement by Dmitry Medvedev:
Mr President,
We met last year in Moscow. Time flies, and this was a good opportunity to visit, to greet you and all Bulgarian citizens on your national holiday – the Day of Liberation from the Ottoman Yoke. I believe this holiday will always bind our countries together. This year, we will also celebrate other significant dates, in particular, 140 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries.
But it is not so much specific dates as it is historical memory which has always been a part of our peoples and has always come through in various situations. Indeed, there have been a lot of difficult but, at the same time, very inspiring moments in the history of our countries. And I think we should make a qualitative advance in the development of our relations for the future, based on the special, warm relations between our countries.

This includes the economy. At some point, I started feeling like our economic ties had completely collapsed. Major projects disappeared, mutual recriminations piled up, and trade all but stagnated. But it is in our power to change anything. The main thing is for our governments to work as they should so that companies can take the necessary decisions and so that we remain in constant dialogue, including dialogue at the interregional and people-to-people level.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the St Petersburg Economic Forum. This is a good platform for visiting our country and discussing various issues with colleagues. I hope this will also contribute to better mutual understanding between our countries.
Thank you again for meeting with us. I have mentioned this today already, but once again thank you very much for the very warm atmosphere. Of course, I don't mean the weather only. I mean the heartfelt atmosphere. Thank you for the invitation.
