Participants discussed the progress of the preparations for the SportAccord World Combat Games, which will be held in St. Petersburg on October 18-26, 2013 and will feature 15 martial arts and combat sports.
St. Petersburg won the right to host the games upon the decision of the General Assembly of the SportAccord international sport federation during its meeting in London on April 8, 2011. The SportAccord World Combat Games are one of the largest international competitions before the Olympic Games.
The games will be held in the Ice Palace, SCC Petersburg, the Yubileiny sports centre and the Spartak basketball centre. The latter is scheduled to open on August 20, 2013. Participants will be accommodated at the Park Inn Pribaltiyskaya, Park Inn Pulkovskaya, Park Inn Nevsky, Radisson Sonya Hotel and Radisson Royal Hotel.
The athletes will compete for 136 sets of medals in 15 martial arts and combat sports. To date, Russian athletes have received 91 licences and will vie for 85 medals.
All sports federations that have finished selecting athletes for the games have supplied name lists, which have been added to the national list and sent to the Ministry of Sport, which will help the athletes to train for the games in their cities of residence. The name lists have not yet been supplied for team competition in judo and wrestling or for individual competition in boxing and savate.
