Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich addressed the 38th annual Congress of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) in St Petersburg. Mr Dvorkovich said that the state intends to be proactive in funding research activities in Russia. “Today only a knowledge-based approach can bring about economic development,” the Deputy Prime Minister said, adding that funding of research activities has been increased and will keep rising. “Research funding will be provided across the board through the Russian Academy of Sciences, science towns, national research universities and other recently created centres, including Skolkovo,” Arkady Dvorkovich went on to say.
The Deputy Prime Minister also read off a welcome address by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
The theme of the 38th FEBS Congress is “Mechanisms in Biology.” Over 3,000 delegates from across the world, including 12 Nobel laureates, are participating in the forum.
