A discussion of current issues of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, including in energy, industry, agriculture and tourism.
Transcript of the beginning of the meeting:
Dmitry Medvedev: Your Majesty, I cordially welcome you on behalf of the Russian Government. We have had really friendly relations with the Kingdom of Morocco. Though you have made many visits to our country, this visit is special. First of all, it marks a new chapter in our relations. Yesterday you met with President Vladimir Putin and signed many documents, which are important and necessary for developing our relations.
At the same time, Russia is a large country with many sites to visit, and we are glad to see you. And today, we can further exchange information about what should be done to develop economic ties between our countries, especially due to favourable conditions. Perhaps, there are also some opportunities that we have not taken advantage of so far. I know yesterday this issue was addressed, and I would like to develop it in this line-up.
Once again, I would like to welcome you, Your Majesty, on behalf of the Russian Government.
Mohammed VI (via interpreter): Thank you, Your Excellency, for the friendly words you said about my country. We are also eager to develop relations with Russia. Yesterday we discussed that with Mr President, and today I would like to reiterate our intention in your presence. Russia and Morocco have long-standing ties. Morocco is one of Russia’s major partners in Africa.
We are also grateful to Russia for its diplomatic and political help and assistance within the UN. We are ready to further strengthen our relations and reach a higher level of development. I think that ministers who accompany you and me – we all together will be able to discuss issues of mutual interest and make this visit meaningful for the benefit of our countries.
