Transcript of the beginning of the meeting:
Nguyen Sinh Hung (via interpreter): Mr Prime Minister, thank you for visiting Vietnam.
Dmitry Medvedev: I am very glad to see you again.
Nguyen Sinh Hung: I visited Russia two years ago, and I met with you then. This visit left me with deep impressions as did my meeting with you.
The partnership between our countries is based on deep trust. The Vietnamese people will always remember the great assistance rendered by the former Soviet Union and the Russian Federation to the Vietnamese people during the national liberation.
Today, relations between our countries are on what I would describe as a new level. They have been developing as a strategic partnership.
I have just been informed about the results of your talks with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung. I welcome the achievements of the talks. I am certain that relations between our countries will be given a new impetus for development.
We wish you, Mr Prime Minister, good health, success, and happiness in life.
Dmitry Medvedev: Thank you, Mr Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung. Colleagues, we are really very happy to be in Vietnam.
I would like to convey to you the friendly wishes and regards from Ms Valentina Matviyenko and Mr Sergei Naryshkin and to express certainty that our inter-parliamentary relations will be strong and friendly.
We have only recently held talks with my counterpart, the Prime Minister. During the talks, we came to terms on a number of important issues, including on promoting relations in various areas, something that will require some work from our countries’ parliaments as well. Some of the documents that we have discussed and approved should pass through both the National Assembly of Vietnam and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
