Born September 14, 1965 in Leningrad.

1987: Graduated from the Faculty of Law of Leningrad State University.

1990: Completed post-graduate studies at Leningrad State University.

Holds a PhD in law and the title of associate professor.

1990-1999: Taught at St Petersburg State University.

1990-1995: Adviser to Chairman of the Leningrad City Council, expert consultant with St Petersburg City Hall's Committee for External Affairs.

1999: Deputy Chief of Staff of the Government Executive Office.

1999-2000: Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office.

2000: Appointed First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office.

2000-2001: Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gazprom.

2001: Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gazprom.

June 2002: Re-appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gazprom.

October 2003: Appointed Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office.

November 2005: Appointed First Deputy Prime Minister.

On May 7, 2008 assumed the office of President of the Russian Federation.

May 8, 2012: Appointed Prime Minister of Russia.

Married to Svetlana Medvedeva, son Ilya (born 1995).
