The document has been developed by the Federal Agency for the Development of the State Border Facilities of the Russian Federation.
According to Article 7 of the Agreement on Checkpoints on the Russian-Latvian Border between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Latvian Republic, the duration of the agreement is limited by the period of establishing the Russian-Latvian state border.
The Russian-Latvian state border was established by the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Latvian Republic on the Russian-Latvian State Border of March 27, 2007. In this regard, the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Latvian Republic signed on June 26, 2008 a Protocol on Extending the Duration of this Agreement before the Agreement on Checkpoints on the Russian-Latvian Border between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Latvian Republic Comes into Force.
The directive approves the Draft Agreement on Checkpoints on the Russian-Latvian Border between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Latvian Republic, agreed upon with the relevant federal executive bodies and elaborated with the Latvian side, and instructs the Federal Agency for the Development of the State Border Facilities of the Russian Federation to hold talks with the Latvian side and to sign it on behalf of the Government of the Russian Federation.
The document provides for six checkpoints on the Russian-Latvian border, including their names, locations and classification, and establishes the procedure for the sharing of information by the sides on opening, operating, reconstructing and closing these checkpoints.
The statutes of the directive will help to improve the efficiency of legal regulation for crossing the border by individuals, vehicles, goods and animals, and for coordinating the activity of relevant bodies of the sides on designing, building, operating, reconstructing and closing checkpoints.
