The Russian Trade Representative Office in the South African Republic has been established to develop foreign economic links, investment cooperation between the sides and to strengthen the Russian positions in the region.
The operation of the Russian Trade Representative Office in the South African Republic was suspended on January 1, 2006 following the Russian Federation’s Government Resolution No 401 of June 27, 2005, On Optimising the System of Trade Representative Offices of the Russian Federation in Foreign States.
Currently, the South African Republic occupies first place among Russian trade and economic partners south of the Sahara. The Russian-South African Republic relations have a long-time history of high-level cooperation and intensively growing trade. The republic is a BRICS member. The operation of the Russian Trade Representative Office in the South African Republic will strengthen Russian trade and economic positions in the South African Republic and across Africa and help business circles in both countries to establish direct links and implement production cooperation in various economic sectors.
