The directive has been prepared by the Russian Space Agency.
The signing of the agreement is aimed at creating an organisational and legal foundation for cooperation between the relevant Russian and Belarusian state agencies, organisations and enterprises in the areas of the joint activities concerned with using and developing the Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) and introducing satellite navigation technology.
The use of information from the Belarusian GLONASS surface infrastructure for research and technology design and development, and applied research to develop and use GLONASS will help to expand the zone of GLONASS monitoring, improve precision and the accessibility and reliability of navigation services provided by GLONASS, and will considerably improve the competitiveness of the Russian system on the global market.
The agreement, in addition to implementing the main task of offering GLONASS navigation signals to Belarusian consumers, will create real prerequisites for developing long-term cooperation in the sphere of high technology between the sides.
The creation of the united navigation field between Russia and Belarus will make it possible to link Belarusian consumers to the active use of navigation technology with the use of GLONASS.
