The Ministry of Foreign Affairs elaborated the Draft Treaty on the Foundations of Relations between Russia and Haiti (hereinafter referred to as the Treaty) to create the international legal basis for Russia-Haiti relations in accordance with the agreements reached.
The Treaty is aimed at developing long-term mutually beneficial bilateralcooperation between Russia and Haiti in the political, trade, economic, cultural and other spheres on the basis of universally recognized principles and norms of international law.
The Treaty reaffirms the commitment of the sides to develop relations in accordance with the provisions of the UN Charter, on the basis of the principles of sovereign equality of states, the self-determination of nations, the settlement of disputes by peaceful means, the non-use of force or its threat, non-interference in the domestic affairs of other states and other universally recognized standards of international law.
The Treaty also provides for the sides’ cooperation in fighting organised crime and international terrorism.
The Government of the Russian Federation reviewed and approved the Treaty at its meeting on 24 September 2015.
