The signed directive approves the draft Agreement between the Russian and US Governments on Cooperation in the Prevention, Control and Elimination of Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (hereinafter referred to as the Agreement and illegal fishing, respectively).
The draft Agreement is developed according to Russian-US arrangements
aimed at preventing illegal fishing in sea areas where Russia and the United
States exercise sovereign rights and jurisdiction in terms of catching living
marine resources, as well as in open sea areas where international fishing
agreements apply involving both countries.
Under cooperation terms, the competent authorities of both countries share information on persons participating or allegedly participating in illegal fishing and related activities; cooperate in conducting investigations and judicial enquiries into cases related to illegal fishing; implement measures according to the legislations of the two countries regarding living marine resources caught as a result of illegal fishing and debarked or planned to be debarked at port.
The signing of the Agreement will provide for cooperation among the Russian and US competent authorities aimed at preventing illegal fishing and stopping the delivery of illegally caught living marine resources of Russian origin to US ports.
