The document has been prepared by the Ministry of Economic Development under the federal law On Naming Geographical Sites. According to article 9 of the federal law, naming and renaming geographical sites is within the powers of the Russian Federation Government.
Based on a proposal by the Republic of Tatarstan State Council, the Resolution assigns the name of Innopolis to the geographical location, a village founded in the Verkhneuslonsky District in the Republic of Tatarstan. The village was founded in order to create a new separate innovation centre in the Verkhneuslonsky District. This innovation centre is meant to attract IT specialists and companies.
The construction of a technology park has begun in the village. Over 50,000 people will be able to reside and work there. There are plans to build new motorways and railways, as well as an airstrip for small aviation.
The names assigned to locations by the Government founded by a decision of regional legislative bodies are their official names and can serve as postal addresses for individuals and companies. These names are also included in the Russian Glossary of the Locations of Administrative and Territorial Division (OKATO).
