Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov held a meeting of the working group of the Government Commission on Emergency Prevention, Response and Fire Safety at the Bureiskaya hydroelectric power station in the Amur Region. The group heard reports from the leaders of the regions that were affected by the recent flood in the Far East, representatives of the Zeiskaya and Bureiskaya hydroelectric power stations, as well as the management of RusHydro and the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring.
In his opening remarks, Mr Puchkov said the situation in the flooded areas was complicated but already under control. “All the crews are operating smoothly and promptly. We are meeting the key goal of saving people’s lives and health,” he said.
Additional efforts are being made to reinforce the teams working in the Far East, in line with President Vladimir Putin’s instructions, Mr Puchkov said. More rescue crews are flown to the area daily, along with flood relief equipment and materials.
The rescuers are being concentrated in the Amur Region, where the situation remains difficult. They are to be regrouped or relocated depending on further developments.
The minister urged the two power stations’ representatives to increase control of water discharge, and asked them to draw up a schedule for the Bureiskaya dam’s water discharges.
“Preventive actions need to be taken where risks are high. People need to be moved out of risk areas in advance and relocated to temporary shelters,” he said.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister once again thanked the representatives of the federal executive bodies, regional leaders and Emergencies Ministry department heads who were involved in the recent flood relief effort in the Far East, for their dedicated work and cooperation, and promised that direct government assistance would be provided to each flood victim.
