The message reads:
Dear Friends!
I am glad to welcome you to pre-Olympic Sochi at the World Conference on Sport and the Environment, which is being held in our country for the first time.
Leading Russian and foreign experts, representatives of the International Olympic Committee, government bodies, business, and civil society will address a range of burning issues, such as the contribution of sport to sustainable development, the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, and the development of high performance in sport. The agenda will also include the implementation of the world’s top environmental management practices during the preparation and holding of major sports events, including the 2014 Winter Olympics.
For Russia, environmental protection and the improvement of environmental responsibility and culture are the most important state priorities. In past years, our country has made considerable progress in modern environment-oriented and energy-saving technologies, as well as in implementing green standards in the construction of Olympic facilities.
I am sure that our foreign guests will have the opportunity to evaluate the scale of preparations for such a prestigious competition, make sure that the works meet environmental requirements, and feel the hospitality of the Kuban Territory.
I would like to wish you fruitful discussions and all of the best.
Dmitry Medvedev
