While attending the event, the Deputy Prime Minister told journalists that Russia prioritised cooperation with foreign partners during this exhibition. Such cooperation would allow the Russian firearms market to expand. “We are not only interested in selling ready-made weapons here and but also in promoting the best gun-making traditions in Russia through the establishment of joint production facilities,” Dmitry Rogozin noted.
In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister mentioned negotiations with Italy’s Beretta and Benelli companies on setting up a joint venture, which would manufacture hunting and sporting guns together with the Kalashnikov Concern. “I believe that, on the whole, we can expect the creation of a production facility which would make tactical combat weapons, if the deal goes through, and if we reach agreement,” Mr Rogozin added.
He said Russia was also interested in launching joint production of various firearms systems. “We are interested in optical systems and the localisation of their production in Russia. This includes day and night sights and thermal imaging systems for civilian firearms and for implementing state defence contracts,” Mr Rogozin noted.
