Marat Khusnullin attends the Russia-Islamic World strategic vision group’s meeting with ambassadors of OIC member states
Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin took part in a meeting between the leadership of the Russia-Islamic World strategic vision group (SVG) and ambassadors of the member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The meeting was also attended by Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov and Head of the Republic of Tatarstan and SVG Chairman Rustam Minnikhanov. Among other things, the participants discussed the upcoming annual Russia-Islamic World International Economic Forum: KazanForum.
“In accordance with Russia’s foreign policy priorities outlined by our President, we continue to strengthen partnership with Muslim countries, partnership based on mutual respect and shared interests. These principles are the basis for building a fair and stable international order. Strengthening mutual understanding and establishing direct contacts between our countries is one of the aims pursued by the Russia-Islamic World strategic vision group. Later this year, the Group will mark its 20th anniversary on the sidelines of the KazanForum. I thank all its members, the Foreign Ministry of Russia, the spiritual boards, and the Republic of Tatarstan for their active work and invariable support for all forum events. Profiting by this occasion, I would like to invite all of you to attend it,” Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Russia-Islamic World International Economic Forum: KazanForum Marat Khusnullin said.
He added that in keeping with President Vladimir Putin’s decision, this year’s KazanForum would be held at the federal level for the fourth year at a stretch. An eventful business programme has been drawn up to address issues in most different areas, including Russia’s collaboration with Islamic countries in construction. In addition, there is a need for a separate focus on developing the key North-South and West-East transport arteries that are essential for food security, stability of supplies, and plans to create alternative logistics routes.
Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov noted that interethnic and interfaith accord had been and remained crucial elements of the centuries-old Russian statehood.
“Islam, along with other traditional religions, is an inalienable part of our country’s spiritual, historical and cultural legacy. Russia’s undoubted foreign policy priorities include efforts to strengthen mutually beneficial ties with states belonging to the friendly Islamic civilisation and to promote dialogue with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation that unites them. The Russia-Islamic World strategic vision group has an important role to play in developing Russia-OIC partnership,” Sergey Lavrov said.
According to Head of the Republic of Tatarstan and Deputy Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Russia-Islamic World International Economic Forum: KazanForum Rustam Minnikhanov, the capital of his Republic will again be a centre for international dialogue within a month from now, when the 17th KazanForum will be held.
“Last year, its business programme involved 8,500 people from 96 countries and 82 regions of Russia, including heads of more than 35 diplomatic missions accredited in Moscow. Let me assure you that this year’s business programme is no less eventful. The forum will be particularly notable for ceremonies in honour of Kazan designated as the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World in 2026, a congress of OIC ministers of culture, the General Assembly of ICESCO, and a congress of OIC national banks, organised in partnership with the Bank of Russia. The Russia-Islamic World strategic vision group, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, will hold its annual meeting during the KazanForum. Over these years, our meetings at the Group’s venues have become traditional, with guests openly discussing current cultural and humanitarian issues, exchanging best practices, and charting avenues for further cooperation. We expect you in Kazan,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.
The Russia-Islamic World strategic vision group was created in 2006 after Russia was granted the observer status at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. It became an important venue for dialogue between Russia and the Islamic World. The discussions centre on current issues of international relations, the situation in the Middle East, and a system of relationships between Russia and states in the Islamic East.
