On the establishment of an airport for low-budget air carriers in Moscow
The Government is planning a project to develop an airport for low-budget carriers at Aerodrome Yermolino (Kaluga Region). At this point, UTair intends to use this airport as a base for its operations.
The Government has designated Aerodrome Yermolino as a joint-use airfield for both UTair and the aviation branch of the Ministry of the Interior.
Plans for the new International Airport Yermolino include a terminal city, approach roads and parking, fuel and storage facilities, as well as renovating the runway.
Passenger traffic is forecast at 3.5 million in 2015 and 7.5 million in 2019.
The renovation of airport facilities, obtaining the relevant permits and the inauguration of a border crossing point are scheduled for 2015-2016.
In addition, Aeroflot has prepared a business plan to set up a low-budget subsidiary airline based on one of the operating airports in the Moscow aviation hub. A total of 3.3 billion roubles is to be invested in the airline, which is expected to go into operation in 2014. By 2018, its passenger traffic is expected to reach 10 million people.
Additionally, the Government is reviewing an idea to develop aerodrome Ramenskoye, also as an airport for low-budget carriers. The airfield is currently being used by the Gromov Flight Research Institute in Zhukovsky, Moscow Region.
