First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia and Co-Chair of the Russian-Indian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation, Denis Manturov paid a working visit to the Republic of India, where he was received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and held bilateral meetings with India’s Minister of External Affairs – Co-Chair of the Russian-Indian Intergovernmental Commission Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister Ajit Doval, and Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman.
Expanding mutually beneficial trade, investment, and cooperation was a key focus of the talks. The parties discussed practical steps to create favourable conditions for increasing trade turnover under current circumstances.
Denis Manturov noted that Russia increased its supplies of in-demand mineral fertiliser to India by 40 percent last year and is ready to continue meeting the country’s needs in this area. In addition, a joint urea production project is currently under development.
Particular attention was given to cooperation in the oil and gas sector. Denis Manturov emphasised that Russian companies have a capacity to steadily expand their supplies of oil and liquefied natural gas to the Indian market.
Russia and India continue to strengthen their partnership in the nuclear energy sector, with construction of power units at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant proceeding in line with agreed schedules. Denis Manturov noted the significant potential for further expanding cooperation in this field.
The parties also held substantive discussions on cooperation in areas such as industrial development, space, and education.
